About Opatija

Opatija is a small tourist city at the north part of Croatian coast (well known as such already in Austrian-Hungarian times), very close to Rijeka and easily reachable from the Zagreb or Ljubljana Airport (about 2 hours by car).

1. Kvarnerski zaljev (Kvarner Bay). Opatija is located in the Bay of Kvarner beneath mountain Učka (1.401 m high) at the point where the Mediterranean reaches most deeply into the European continent. Mountain Učka and the nearby islands provide good shelter from strong winds for this tourist resort that can easily be reached at any time throughout the year.

2. Lungomare. The best known thing about Opatija is its Lungomare - 12 kilometers long coastal promenade that joins up the main points along the Opatija Riviera - Volosko, Opatija, Ičići, Ika and Lovran.

3. Djevojka s galebom (Girl with the sea-gull). This sculpture, work of the sculptor Zvoko Car, was placed by the see in 1956, and is one of the symbols of the city Opatija.
